Important announcement!
As of May 1st 2009, the property and management of Den Haan & Wagenmakers BV retail passed to different hands. From that date, Petra Prins and Nel Kooiman continue the specialized quilting and patchwork activities unchanged. Although the business's emphasis will remain on the collection of Dutch chintz of DH&W, the selection is extended; not only the best and most recent reproduction fabrics but also the famous antique rose prints from the collection of Petra Prins are available. As used to be the case, the shop in Amsterdam offers again a wide variety of quilt materials and books.
Elsbeth, Petra, Nel and Annelies will heartily welcome you in the shop.
Attention! Standing in front of the building please take the little stairs on your left side to the shop entrance and we are sure that your surprise will be unforgettable

Wim Wagenmakers and Rudolf den Haan remain, as ever, responsible for designing and expanding the collection of chintzes. They will remain in charge of the wholesale business.

This site presents cotton chintzes, a quilting fabric based on antique Dutch manuscripts that were designed by Rudolf den Haan and printed in The Netherlands.

Most of these documents were brought to Holland during the 17th century by the merchants of the Dutch East India Company trading on India's Coromandel coast. The designs were widely copied in The Netherlands and France during the 18th century.

The original handpainted designs from India were initially used for interior decoration as well as in Dutch national costumes. During the 18th century, when printing mills began commercially producing these flowered patterns, the cotton chinz was mainly used for clothing but sometimes, even then, for patchwork and as quilting fabric. (see 'Quilts, a Dutch tradition' by An Moonen)

Today our company presents a number of those flowered patterns, antique reproduction most suitable for patchwork in a range of different colours. Each year new quilting fabric will be developed to match our existing collection. Together they make up a rather exclusive and unusual collection of antique reproductions.

The quality of our cotton chintz is excellent and is especially attractive as quilting fabric because of the 150 cm/60 inch width. It is finished with a slight glaze just like in the old days! There was chosen to print with pigment to prevent fading. In fact, due to the method of finishing, it is not even necessary to pre-wash these products.

For orders you can press page "shop on line" or the button "order" that allows entrance to a fully secured site with regard to the personal information about your credit card.

Thank you for visiting us and we hope to hear from you soon.
